Sounds Of Introspection: Bicep On Their New Album ‘Isles’
The Bicep ethos can be boiled down to one simple missive: Take inspiration everywhere. Since making their name in 2008 with one of Web 1.0’s more in-demand music blogs, “Feel My Bicep,” Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson — the brains behind the brawn — have championed musical obscurities, rarities, and introduced a new audience to the more outré side of dance music — a practice carried over from their blogger days and into their own music.
Living in London for over a decade (after growing up together in Northern Ireland), McBriar and Ferguson invite the sound of the two cities into their music: The juddering scrapes of jungle beats, the wide tonality of Celtic folk, the hullabaloo of music heard on faraway rooftops and inside tiny cafes. Together, they boil down all of these influences — every intriguing sound, every environment, every emotion — into painstakingly edited tracks which neatly, exuberantly convey the sound of being alive in a world full of noise.
